Just finished reading TAKE PRIDE - Why the deadliest sin holds the secret to human success, by Jessica Tracy (a psych prof at UBC, over in Vancouver) It's pretty interesting stuff for those of us who are intrigued by what's been called the Human Potential Movement, aka, How the Heck Can I Make the Most of This Life o' Mine???
This book caught my eye because I was always taught:
PRIDE IS BAD. Period.
Pride is Bad, just plain bad, no question about it, B-A-D, BAD! Right?
Wrong. The folks that taught me that (maybe they taught you the same thing) were just plain wrong. Tther is a kind of pride that is counter-productive, alrighty, but according to Tracy's very convincing argument, there is another sort of pride that is absolutely crucial to our sense of happiness, health, well-being, etc. She divides PRIDE into two catagories:
