This year I’ll be going through The Science of Getting Rich one more time, chapter by chapter, concept by concept, to see if this so-called science actually works. I’d love for you to join me.
A Bit of Background:
As you may know, last year I decided to edit that 1910 classic of prosperity-literature. I heard about this book years ago. It was said that reading the book could have a dramatic (positive) effect on a person’s finances. I was up for that.
However, when I finally located a copy, I was vastly disappointed, if not to say irritated and annoyed. Like so many other books, this one was written by a man, about men and for men, and since I’m not a man, I couldn’t help but feel excluded.
Don’t get me wrong; I know that the author was simply reflecting the prevailing culture of his early-20th-century era, but the point is that The Science of Getting Rich in its original, gender-specific form was virtually useless for anyone of the womanly persuasion. I wanted a version of the book that would connect to that deeper level of consciousness where real change can take place. So, I decided to make it myself.
I rewrote the manuscript, replacing all the “he-s” and “him’s” with we-s and us-s.
My intention was to create a single paperback copy, using the free print-on-demand system I’ve used for my novels. It would be my own personal edition of The Science for my private use. I wanted to learn the Science, apply the Science and Get Rich. Sounds easy, doesn’t it?
Does the Science work?
Good question, right? In fact, after reading the manuscript I-don’t-know how many times while editing and proofing and publishing, I discovered that I actually had begun to absorb some of its ideas. I was even taking a little action, YAY! (I’ll explain about that in a future post, I promise.)
Unfortunately, I wasn’t any richer than I had been before I tackled the book. I think it could be fun to get richer, if for no other reason than to find out if it IS possible. It would be an interesting experience, wouldn’t it?
With my new Science of Getting Rich paperback in hand, I'm ready to do a serious test-drive. Admittedly, I am afflicted with skepticism. A part of me is sneering, “It’s NOT going to work!” Just because some folks claim this book changed their lives for the better, forever, there's no guarantee it will work for me.
However, there’s only one way to find out, right? It might work. It might not, but on the other hand, it may. I'm willing to be the guinea pig in my own life.
What's with the Blog??
I’m going to blog about this venture for two reasons:
First, because I want a week by week, chapter by chapter record of my experience with the book, especially if turns out well. Second, since we’re all in this together, this record could inspire someone else to do their own test-drive of the book. In short, whether or not my attempt is successful, it could be of benefit to someone. That possibility is enough to motivate me to go public despite the possibility that I may embarrass myself badly before the year is done.
You Are Invited ...
Please join me next week, whether as a fellow adventurer or as an observer, as we dive into Wallace D Wattles’ original Preface and dip our toes into Chapter One. I’ll look forward to hearing from you as we embark upon this quest. Here we go….!
Sincerely, Elaine H
